MOSCOW, August 19 (Itar-Tass) — Over 170,000 participated in celebration of Uraza Bayram in Moscow, press service of Moscow’s police reported on Sunday.
“The major festive events, in which, according to early information, participated over 170,000, are over in Moscow,” the press service said. “Security and public order were provided in full.”
The source said that about 3,000 police and interior military provided security. Besides, the traffic in Prospect Mira /where a mosque is/ has been resumed, the press service said.
At the same time, Russia’s Council of Muftis referring to authorities reports about 190,000 participants in festive events. The figure includes four mosques and three park zone, which were allocated to Muslims for the holiday.
“Official report of the Moscow police presented to the government of Moscow, says near the Moscow cathedral mosque 90,000 believers were praying. At Poklonnaya Gora at the Memorial Mosque were 35,000 Muslims. In the Historic Mosque the mass featured 25,000 and 20,000 in the Mosque in Otradnoye /district of Moscow/,” the Council said.
Besides, the city authorities had allocated three sites: in a pavilion in Sokolniki park, in South Butovo /district of Moscow/, and for the first time in Luzhniki – on the golf field.
Most prayers at Uraza Bayram in Moscow were labour migrants.
The Muslims will continue the celebration for two more days. Russia’s several regions, which are densely inhibited by Muslims, traditionally announce several days off during the holiday.
