MAKHACHKALA, October 10 (Itar-Tass) —— The families of the victims killed in the recent flooding in Derbent (Dagestan) will be given financial support worth one million roubles each, Head of Dagestan Magomedsalam Magomedov said at an extraordinary conference called after the Derbent flooding.
At present, the related departments have been calculating the losses the flooding inflicted; then, financial assistance will be given to all the people who suffered as a result of the natural calamity.
Magomedov also addressed voluntary brigades recently set up in Derbent and the Derbenet region, urging them to take part in the clean-up after the flooding.
The head of Dagestan pointed out at the emergency conference that Dagestan had turned down the assistance offered by other Russian territories because Dagestan has enough strength and facilities of its own to cope with the consequences of such emergencies, Magomedov said.
Torrential rains which hit the city of Derbent and the settlement of Sabnova last night flooded 320 private houses .Six people, including a family of three and a baby ten month old, fell victim to the natural calamity. The overall number of people who happened to be in the calamity zone was 1,120, including 280 children.
