Kyrgyzstan confirms plans to join Customs Union before yearend

SOCHI, August 11. /ITAR-TASS/. Kyrgyzstan’s President Almazbek Atambayev confirmed his country’s intention to join the Customs Union before the yearend.

“Of course, we would like to join the Customs Union and the Eurasian Economic Union before the yearend,” he said during a meeting with Russia’s President Vladimir Putin on Monday.

Kyrgyzstan’s leader added his country has been working actively to ensure successful result.

“I hope everything will be fine,” the president said.

Kyrgyzstan firmly and permanently develops relations with Russia, which the president called the country’s “strategic partner.

The Eurasian Economic Union, which envisages free movement of goods, services, capital and workforce and is based on the Customs Union of Russia, Belarus and Kazakhstan, will become operational from January 1, 2015. The treaty on the establishment of the Eurasian Economic Union was signed by the presidents of Russia, Belarus and Kazakhstan on May 29 in Astana.
