TBILISI, January 11. /TASS/. There is no agreement regarding the form of payment for transit of Russian gas to Armenia via Georgia yet, Georgian Energy Minister Khaka Kaladze said on Monday.
Russia supplies gas to Armenia via the Georgian territory and pays to Tbilisi partially using transit gas.
"There is no agreement regarding the issue yet," the minister said, adding that the existing agreement with Gazprom is reviewed each year, "though this time around there is a proposal on monetary payment for Russian gas being transported via the Georgian territory." "We’re discussing the possibility of paying for gas transit from Russia to Armenia not by providing us 10% from transit gas but its monetary value," he said.
The country’s Economy Minister Dmitry Kumsishvili said that Gazprom uses Georgia’s territory for gas transit from the Russian Federation to Armenia thus, the sides have certain liabilities regarding payment for this transit." "The terms of payment for transit are being negotiated by the sides, same as other technical details," the Minister said.
In recent years 90% of Georgia’s gas supply have been provided by deliveries from Azerbaijan and 10% - by Russian gas, which the country received for gas transit from the Russian Federation to Armenia.
