MOSCOW, February 1. /TASS/. Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei’s top adviser on international affairs, Ali Akbar Velayati, has started his four-day visit to Moscow today.
"Several meetings with representatives of Russian leadership are planned," the Iranian Embassy said adding that "bilateral and regional problems will dominate the agenda."
In mid-January sanctions against Iran were lifted after the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) verified Tehran’s compliance with the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPA) on implementation of agreement on the nuclear program. The Russian Foreign Ministry noted that the implementation of the Vienna agreement from 14 July 2015 has become a huge step on the way to "final normalization of the situation around Iran."
"The Russian side will actively contribute to ensuring stability of JCPA over the course of its implementation, at least for the next ten years," the foreign ministry said. "We hope that all other participants in the process will strictly observe their commitments so that the work does not stop and brings results," the ministry added.
Russia and Iran earlier confirmed their plans to deepen cooperation, including on extending the package of agricultural products deliveries. Moscow also hopes to significantly expand military-technical cooperation with Iran.
