MOSCOW, February 18. /TASS/. Russia’s Ambassador to the UN Vitaly Churkin believes that the Syrian crisis will not be the beginning of a new world war.
"I would like to hope this will not happen. In my opinion, things are not heading towards any global conflict, the third world war involving Russia, the Americans, NATO and so on," he told Russia’s Kommersant-FM radio and the Kommersant daily.
The diplomat noted that the war in Syria "could not rage on for another five years." "Syria is on the verge of disintegration. Moreover, we are talking about the catastrophe for the entire Syrian people," Churkin added.
