MOSCOW, February 28. /TASS/. Many Americans regard the ceasefire in Syria as a defeat, Chairman of the State Duma committee for foreign affairs Alexey Pushkov said.
"A deputy spokesman of the U.S. Department of State has broken down - frayed nerves," Pushkov wrote on Twitter. "In the United States lots of people regard the ceasefire in Syria as a defeat: the papers are indignant and the neoconservatives are shocked."
Earlier, the spokeswoman for Russia’s Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova, called unethical the statement of Mark Toner, the U.S. Department of State deputy spokesman, who on Friday said Russia should "put up or shut up" in the context of the ceasefire in Syria coming into effect.
"What do these very rude statements of the U.S. side mean?" Zakharova said on Saturday, aired by the Rossiya 24 television.
"First, certainly, it means a lack of intelligence. Second, a lack of good education. But it is not the main thing. An impudent behavior is a main indicator there are not any arguments left," she said.
On Monday Russian President Vladimir Putin and U.S. President Barack Obama adopted a joint statement on the cessation of hostilities in Syria on February 27, obliging both sides to influence different political forces in the country to achieve a ceasefire.
