MOSCOW, July 01./ITAR-TASS/. Beijing demonstrates understanding of the motives behind Moscow’s actions in crisis situations, also concerning Crimea and Ukraine, Russian Ambassador to China Andrey Denisov said on Tuesday after President Vladimir Putin’s meeting with Russian diplomats in Moscow.

“China understands that developments in Ukraine have their historical roots and political realities,” Denisov said. “They understand that events in Ukraine could not appear spontaneously. This was a pre-planned process which actually brought the Ukrainian state to the brink of the severest crisis.”

“Expressing gratitude to our Chinese partners, we express gratitude for their understanding. The word ‘support’ would not be quite appropriate in this context as our Chinese partners do not voice their support as it is - officially and as a political statement,” he said. “They say they seek to resolve the Ukrainian crisis by peaceful means, on a collective basis and with the use of mediation efforts if necessary.”

“We can only agree with our Chinese partners in this regard,” the diplomat said. “It is highly important to us that they are not slinging mud at us in such an indiscriminate way as our Western partners do. They demonstrate understanding of the motives for our actions in acute political situations requiring fast and non-alternative decision-making.”

“There were situations, as it was with Crimea, when we had simply no choice. For those familiar with the issue it was quite obvious that Russia’s leadership just could not act otherwise,” Denisov said. “Our Chinese partners appreciate at least our motives for making this or that political decision.”
