MOSCOW, March 24. /TASS/. The helicopter crews of Russia’s Severomorsk submarine chaser, currently on a routine mission in the Mediterranean, have begun a series of practice flights, the Northern Fleet’s press-service chief captain 1st class Vadim Serga told TASS on Tuesday.

The crew of one of the anti-submarine helicopters Ka-27 will practise submarine search operations with the use of standard hydro-acoustic equipment.

While the ship is at anchor, the pilots will be polishing take-off and landing skills.

The Severomorsk left the port of the same name - the main base of the Northern Fleet - on a long voyage on November 20, 2014. Since then it has left behind more than 12,000 miles. It helped maintain the safety of shipping in the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden and paid a business visit to the port of Salalah, Oman. At the moment the Severodvinsk leads a Russian naval task force present in the Mediterranean on a permanent basis.
