IAAF Taskforce delegation to pay 3rd visit to Russia next week — official

MOSCOW, February 9. /TASS/. A monitoring delegation from the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF), also known as IAAF Taskforce, on the ongoing reformations in Russian athletics will pay its next visit to Russia next, week, a senior Russian athletics executive told TASS on Tuesday.

"IIAF commission’s third visit to take place next week," Mikhail Butov, the secretary general of the All-Russia Athletics Federation (ARAF), said in an interview with TASS.

The IAAF Taskforce delegation paid its first visit to Moscow on January 11-12 meeting in the Russian capital with members of the Interim Coordination Committee (ICC) of the Russian Olympic Committee (ROC). The second delegation from the world’s governing body of athletics paid a visit to Moscow on January 25-26.

December 11, 2015 the IAAF published a final list of recommendations, under which ARAF should be reformed. IAAF said at the time that members of the coordinating committee headed by Gennady Aleshin should hold regular meeting with the IAAF Taskforce so as to assess efficiency of ARAF reforming and to outline the next steps.

The IAAF Taskforce was set up in mid-November with the aim to reform the ARAF, which was in the focus of numerous doping scandals over the last year. The first visit of the Taskforce to Russia to see the results of the ongoing reformations in the ARAF was scheduled for January 11-12.

The Taskforce is headed by its Independent Chair Rune Andersen alongside IAAF Council’s members - Abby Hoffman, the Assistant Deputy Minister for the Strategic Policy Branch at Health Canada, Anna Riccardi, a Technical Delegate for the Rio Olympic Games and Italy’s National Olympic Committee’s Head of Team Services Sport and Olympic Programme Area, Frank Fredericks from Namibia, a member of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), Chairman of the IAAF Athletes’ Commission, and Geoff Gardner, the president of the Oceania Athletics Association (Norfolk Island).
