BERLIN, February 12. /ITAR-TASS/. Germany’s most prominent figure skater and two-time Olympic champion Katarina Witt “has turned in Sochi into an absolute fan of Evgeni Plushenko”, the German Press Agency DPA said on Wednesday.
“After Russia’s victory in the team figure skating event, the 31-year-old St. Petersburg resident wants to take the lead also in the individual competition,” DPA said.
Among Plushenko’s admirers is also young German figure skater Peter Liebers, who was very happy to meet the Russian athlete even at a training session.
“He has been my idol for more than a decade,” Liebers was quoted as saying.
“Everything here looks different from the world championships,” he said. “Everything is more large-scale and more thrilling. The Olympic Games are a different league.”
