KIEV, April 25. /ITAR-TASS/. Leader of the UDAR political party Vitali Klitschko has submitted documents to register as Kiev mayoral candidate. On Wednesday, April 23, participants of the conference of the party’s Kiev municipal office supported his candidature.
Kiev mayoral elections are scheduled for May 25, simultaneously with Ukrainian presidential elections. Earlier, Klitschko openly refused from the presidential race and declared his intention to focus on the Kiev mayoral race, putting the issue of fighting corruption in the center of his electoral program.
The metropolitan election committee will accept documents for registration of mayoral candidates until April 30. Upon decision of Central Election Committee, a mayoral candidate should make an electoral deposit amounting to 52,934 hryvnias ($4,603).
Earlier, plans to take charge of Kiev were announced by ex-chair of Kiev town hall Ivan Saliy, parliamentarian Lesya Orobets, European Party leader Mykola Katerynchuk, actual head of Kiev town hall Volodymyr Bondarenko (Batkivshchyna party), MP from the Svoboda faction Andriy Illenko. According to the results of one of the latest public opinion polls, Vitali Klitschko has the biggest chances to win the elections: so far, 52.5% of voters are ready to choose him.
