DONETSK, May 11, /ITAR-TASS/. Servicemen of the the so-called Ukrainian national guards have killed a civilian in the town of Krasnoarmeisk in Ukraine’s eastern Donetsk region, Denis Pushilin, a co-chairman of the government of the self-proclaimed Donetsk People’s Republic, told Itar-Tass on Sunday.
However he provided no further details of the incident.
“They (Ukrainian law enforcers) were impeding the referendum. Members of the elections commission have barely escaped,” he said.
According to earlier reports, Krasnoarmeisk became the first town in Ukraine’s Donetsk region to finish the Sunday referendum. The voter turnout here was 77.08 percent, Roman Lyagin, the chairman of the central election commission of the self-proclaimed Donetsk People’s Republic, told Itar-Tass.
According to Lyagin, polling stations in that town were closed that early because of security considerations. On Sunday, Ukrainian law enforcers who are conducting a punitive operation in the town seized four school buildings housing polling stations. “All people were evacuated from these polling stations, along with ballot boxes, signature lists, voter registers,” Pushilin said, adding that radicals, presumably, members of the so-called national guards, had seized the building of the Krasnoarmeisk city executive committee.
