CAIRO, June 23. /ITAR-TASS/. US Secretary of State John Kerry has arrived in Baghdad on Monday, Al-Arabiya TV Channel reported.
On his visit, Kerry will meet with Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki and political leader of the country.
Latest developments in Iraq
On Sunday, militants from the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIS) organization seized the settlement of al-Waleed on the border with Syria. SkyNews Arabia reported that extremists have established their control over the border crossing in al-Waleed.
On June 21, ISIS militants seized the strategically important town of al-Qaim in the Anbar province that borders Syria.
Some reports say ISIS insurgents also seized the town of Trebiel located on near the border between Iraq and Jordan.
On June 22, extremists seized three towns in the Anbar province – Ar Rutbah, Anah and Rawa. Iraqi forces left the area before the militants approached. Iraq's armed forces spokesman Qasim Ata later said it was a tactical retreat.
