KIEV, July 16. /ITAR-TASS/. An explosion rocked a stretch of a railway connecting two residential areas in Ukraine’s embattled southeastern Donetsk Region on Wednesday, no casualties were reported, the press service of the Ukrainian Railways company reported.

According to the company, the blast damaged the railway between the residential settlements of Novobakhmutovka and Gorlovka and was the second explosion at the same place in the recent time.

Three bridges were blown up in the Donetsk Region over the past three days. The blown up bridges were located on the Rostov-Kharkiv highway, on the railway near the Bakhmutovka village and across the Seversky Donets near the village of Zakotnoye.

Two more bridges were blown up in another Ukrainian southeastern embattled region of Luhansk. The one was over the Seversky Donetsk River and the other on the railway across the Tepla River.

Ukrainian law enforcers warn that highways and dirt roads used by military convoys can be laden with different types of explosives.

Troops loyal to Kiev and local militias in the Donetsk and Luhansk regions are involved in fierce clashes as the Ukrainian armed forces are conducting a military operation to regain control over the breakaway regions, which on May 11 proclaimed their independence at local referendums.

During its military operation conducted since mid-April, Kiev has used armored vehicles, heavy artillery and attack aviation. According to Ukraine’s Health Ministry, 478 civilians have been killed and 1,392 wounded in the armed stand-off. Many buildings have been destroyed and tens of thousands of people have had to flee Ukraine’s embattled southeast.
