According to CENTCOM, “At approximately 12:20pm EDT (20:20pm, Moscow time), US remotely piloted aircraft struck and destroyed an ISIL armed vehicle west of the village of Sinjar, located in the vicinity of an ISIL checkpoint. All aircraft exited the strike area safely.”
Earlier in the day, deputy spokesperson for the US Department of State Marie Harf said the United States had “taken 24 strikes over the past several days hitting ISIL targets” in the north of Iraq.
The US Air Force has also been delivering food and drinking water in the area of the Sinjar Mountains in the northwest of the country for Yazidis, an Iraqi religious minority, and other civilians blocked there.
Meanwhile, according to recent reports, a team of US marines and special forces landed on Mount Sinjar in Iraq on Wednesday to assess options for a potential rescue of Yazidi civilians threatened by Islamic extremists and worn down by lack of food.
