ABU DHABI, October 8. /TASS/. Russia’s move to join the anti-terrorism fight in Syria will change the situation in the Middle East and the world, Syria’s Deputy Foreign Minister Faisal Mekdad said on Thursday.
"Russia’s joining the struggle against terrorism on Syria’s territory will lead to changes in the region and the whole world," Mekdad told the country’s national television.
The Syrian diplomat said Russia joined the counter-terrorism operation when it became clear that the international coalition led by the United States was treating this fight "insincerely."
"The airstrikes carried out by Russia’s aerospace forces over just several days achieved much greater results than the international coalition did within more than a year since its establishment," he said.
Russia’s aerospace forces launched pinpoint strikes against the Islamic State targets in Syria at the request of Syrian President Bashar Assad on September 30. The air group comprises more than 50 aircraft and helicopters, including the newest Su-34 fighter bombers, and also modernized Su-24M and Su-25 fighter jets.
