MOSCOW, February 3. /TASS/. The village of Kominternovo in the buffer zone in southern Donbass on Wednesday came under fire from the Ukrainian armed forces, regional administration chief Oleg Morgun said.
"The shelling was conducted for two hours. No one has reported to me on destruction or those injured, but the shelling site may only be inspected in the morning," the Donetsk News Agency quoted Morgun as saying.
He said the Ukrainian army was possibly using large-caliber weapons, in particular 120-millimeter mortars.
Earlier the Defense Ministry of the self-proclaimed Donetsk People’s Republic [DPR] reported that fifteen 82-millimeter shells were fired at Kominternovo from the Ukrainian side over the past 24 hours.
Ukrainian troops have fought with local militias during Kiev’s punitive operation, underway since mid-April 2014, against the self-proclaimed Donetsk and Lugansk people's republics [DPR and LPR] constituting parts of the Donetsk and Lugansk regions of Ukraine.
Thousands have been killed during massive shelling of residential neighborhoods. The fighting has led to a humanitarian disaster in the area.
The ceasefire regime, imposed as part of the Package of Measures on implementation of the September 2014 Minsk Agreements, has been regularly violated by Kiev. The Package, dubbed Minsk-2, was signed on February 12, 2015 in Minsk by participants of the Contact Group on settlement in Donbass.
At talks in Minsk on January 13, 2016, the Contact Group on settlement in Donbass agreed on a ceasefire - the seventh since the conflict start, from January 14. Both parties to the conflict have repeatedly accused each other of violating the deal.
