CHISINAU, February 4 /TASS/. Different political views have prevented the leftist and rightist opposition in Moldova to join efforts and come out in a united front, Igor Dodon, the leader of the Party of Socialists of Moldova, which has the biggest parliamentary faction, said on Thursday. The Socialists refused to support a resolution of the Civil Forum, which had assembled all Moldovan opposition forces on January 29.
"We will maintain partnership relations with opposition groups, which have different political convictions, so long as they do not give priority to questions of geopolitics and identity," Dodon said.
"Terms like ’European’, ‘EU’, ‘Donors’ appear almost in every message. We are trying to avoid these themes so as not to focus on our differences," Dodon said. His party stands for the eastern vector of development along with Our Party of Renato Usastii.
The opposition has the same demands - early parliamentary elections; transition to direct presidential elections and de-politization of state bodies of power.
"We are going to exert pressure for as long as our demands are not met. We should not allow this power to strike roots," Dodon said. He promised to hold the next protest rally when parliament meets for a plenary session.
On January 29, the leaders of the Party of Socialists, Our Party and Civil Platform DA (Dignity and Truth) held a forum where they shared their vision on the situation in Moldova with the public. The ideas and requirements expressed at the forum will be handed over to the authorities.
But representatives of the Party of Socialists and Our Party did not show up at a news conference held on Thursday.
