MOSCOW, February 11. /TASS/. The South Korean authorities have refuted the country’s media reports on the alleged supplies of Russian components for the North Korean missile launched on February 7 and voiced regret over this misunderstanding. A source in the Russian Foreign Ministry has said that the South Korean side had sent a letter of clarification on the issue to Moscow.
"The relevant reports are obvious misinformation," the document says. "The contents of reports in South Korea and Russia media differ essentially from the explanation given by a representative of the National Intelligence Service (NIS) of the Republic of Korea to members of the National Assembly during the closed parliamentary hearings. The statement of the NIS representative made no mention whatsoever of the transfer of relevant Russian technologies and components to the North Korean side with the approval of the Russian government."
According to the clarification statement, "the NIS pointed to the possibility of penetration of relevant technologies and components into North Korea from neighboring countries, since North Korea continues to make constant efforts to get, through illegal activities with regard to the countries possessing missile technologies, relevant technologies and components for use in its missile projects."
"Some media that obtained the relevant information have published reports distorting the contents of the NIS clarification statement," the South Korean side said. "We express our regret over the misunderstanding that emerged due to this fact.".
