HAVANA, February 15. /TASS/. The historical meeting of Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia and Pope Francis in Havana has given hope to people, Fidel Castro, the leader of the Cuban revolution, said on Monday.
According to Castro, the key purpose of the two leaders is to "stop the most violent war which can be unleashed."
"Thousands of nuclear weapons are threatening the humanity," Castro said, adding that peace has always been a golden dream of the humanity and keen desire of peoples in every moment of history.
Struggle for peace is a sacred duty of all the people despite their religion, nation or age, Castro said.
"The crucial importance of the meeting between Pope Francis and Patriarch Kirill in Havana is that it has revived hope in the nations of the world," he said.
The first ever meeting of the primates of the Russian Orthodox Church and the Roman Catholic Church took place in Havana on February 12. A joint declaration was signed at the meeting, covering main political issues and problems of social values.
