UNITED NATIONS, February 18. /TASS/. The United Nations humanitarian organizations and the Ukrainian government have called on international donors to allocate $298 million to provide aid to people living in Donbass in 2016
Stephane Dujarric, the spokesperson for the United Nations secretary general, told journalists on Wednesday, an appeal to this effect was published earlier in the day in Kiev.
Humanitarian organizations in Ukraine and the country’s government have requested $298 million to help the most vulnerable people in 2016, said, adding the money is needed to support those who live in settlements along the engagement line in Donbass that were most severely damaged over the conflict, and to people living in areas non-controlled by the Kiev authorities.
According to the latest data of the United Nations, as many as 9,145 people have been killed and about 21,000 have been wounded in the conflict in eastern Ukraine. More than 1.1 million people are internally displaced persons. The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) says about 3.1 million people will need relief aid in Ukraine in 2016.
