BEIRUT, February 26./TASS/. The overwhelming majority of armed groups fighting under the authority of the so-called Free Syrian Army announced they agreed to abide by the ceasefire, the Lebanese online Daily Star newspaper quoted the High Negotiations Committee statement as saying.
"Factions of the Free Syrian Army and the armed opposition agree to respect a temporary truce ... for two weeks," the High Negotiations Committee (HNC) said in a statement, referring to "97 factions from the opposition," the newspaper said.
The ceasefire is due to take effect at midnight Saturday.
The HNC has formed a military commission on monitoring the two-week cessation of hostilities in Syria.
Lebanon’s newspaper Daily Star published the communique, saying that Syria’s former prime minister Riad Hijab will head the commission.
Earlier, Syria's government and the Syrian Democratic Forces alliance announced they accept the cessation of hostilities terms under the Russian-US agreement. The truce does not apply to terrorist groups such as the Islamic State and Jebhat al-Nusra.
