BUCHAREST, March 1. /TASS/. Romania plans to counteract Russian mass media in Moldova. A report issued by the Romanian Foreign Ministry said this counteraction is a main objective of the the Romania-Moldova consultative board in the sphere of mass media set up in Bucharest.

Dan Stojanescu, the head of the ministry's department for politics towards and communications with fellow-Romanians abroad said at the first session of the board the time was ripe for supporting Moldova in the sphere of European values through the creation of a common space for communications and joint investments.

He said the board would be an important element in handing the European norms down to Moldova and for exploring the opportunities of bilateral cooperation.

Stojanescu voiced the aspirations of the Council members to embrace the Russian-speaking audiences with this activity, too, as the Russian-speakers living in Moldova would have access to information in their native tongue.

He said media professionals, civic society activists, and experts in communications from both countries had received seats on the board.

Romanian ambassador to Chisinau, Mihai Gribincea said the board would draft proposals for the Romanian and Moldovan authorities on easing the spread of Romanian mass media to the territory "to the space between the Pruth and the Dniester" a factor of particular importance since the Moldovan information space was allegedly dominated by the Russian media.
