MOSCOW, March 11. /TASS/. Beijing is opposed to the deployment of the US THAAD missile defense systems to South Korea, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi said on Friday following talks with his Russian counterpart Sergey Lavrov.
"We are strongly opposed to deploying the THAAD missile defense systems to South Korea under the pretext of the Korean Peninsula’s nuclear issue," the minister said. "We believe that it will inflict direct harm to strategic security interests of China and Russia."
"We have already outlined our position, it coincides with Russia’s stance," he added. "Such plans go beyond the defense needs in the region, upset the strategic balance and will lead to a new arms race."
