Взрывное устройство сработало в 22.35 по местному времени (00.35 вторника по московскому времени) на стадионе "Манчестер-Арена", когда люди расходились после окончания концерта американской поп-певицы Арианы Гранде. При этом сама исполнительница не пострадала, но планирует прервать свой гастрольный тур.

По данным полиции, это было самодельное взрывное устройство. Его заложили в фойе крытого стадиона, в зоне продажи билетов.

По последним данным, погибло 22 человека, в том числе дети. Ариана Гранде популярна среди молодежи, поэтому на концерте в основном присутствовали несовершеннолетние и студенты, сообщил Reuters со ссылкой на полицию.

Кроме того, ранения получили еще 64 человека, которых скорая помощь распределила по шести городским больницам.

Ответственность за взрыв на "Манчестер-Арене" взяла на себя террористическая организация "Исламское государство" (ИГ, запрещена в РФ).

По данным правоохранительных органов, в действие взрывное устройство привел террорист-смертник. В среду начальник полиции графства Большой Манчестер Иэн Хопкинс заявил, что террорист действовал в составе террористической ячейки. Уже в четверг правоохранители сообщили о задержании восьми человек по делу о теракте.

Террористу было 23 года и его звали Салман Абеди. Он недавно вернулся из Ливии, где его отец был внесен в списки экстремистов.

По данным СМИ, смертник прошел начальную военную подготовку в Сирии.

Жители Манчестера оперативно отреагировали на трагедию. Так, потерявшихся несовершеннолетних разместили в гостинице, а местные таксисты бесплатно развозили людей по домам.

Премьер-министр Тереза Мэй прервала избирательную кампанию к парламентским выборам. Она назвала произошедшее ужасным терактом. Мэр Манчестера Эндрю Бернэм написал в Twitter, что ночь стала "ужасной" для города.

Полиция Большого Манчестера призвала жителей и гостей города воздержаться от посещения его центральной части в связи с работами, которые проводили эксперты на месте теракта и рядом с ним.

Многие центральные улицы города были оцеплены, а отправка и прибытие поездов с железнодорожной станции Виктория, к которой примыкает стадион "Манчестер-Арена", была практически полностью прекращена.

В британской столице уровень террористической угрозы был повышен до критического.

Во вторник соболезнования Великобритании в связи с терактом выразили президент России Владимир Путин и председатель КНР Си Цзиньпин.

Президент США Дональд Трамп также выразил соболезнования и заявил о необходимости уничтожения радикальной идеологии ИГ.
